Cinepaint
Cinepaint, earlier known as FilmGIMP, is a fork of a much older version of GIMP, that contains a number of features that GIMP currently doesn't have, such a high bit depth support. A while ago a full rewrite of the application was started, but due to lack of active developers neither rewrite was finished, nor the working version of the application is well maintained.

Krita
Krita, a bitmap editor and painting tool Krita is a raster graphics editor from KOffice. Contrary to usual role and set of features of a graphics editor in an office suite it's a quite advanced application that contains hi-end functionality like creating HDR and tonemapping, grouping of layers, live filters, high bit depth support, native L*a*b* support etc. Krita relies on component technology from KOffice that allows using features that are part of different office application, thus it has e.g. rich text formatting on-canvas and all tools available in Karbon — vector graphics editor from KOffice.

Pixel
Pixel is a closed source commercial graphics editor with UI very much resembling Photoshop pre-CS3 and a very close feature set: high bit depth, CMYK and L*a*b color space supported natively, a lot of fliters, including live filters, adjustment layers etc. Unfortunately the project has gone through difficult times and only an old incomplete demo version is available right now.
