FAQ: Blender
What stands a blender for in graphic design ?
Many graphic project need several tools. For example, when doing a layout you'll usually need a lay out program, but very often image processing, vector drawing and text processing programs. Blender is a software that will be able to shake the milk you produce, and return a much more wonderfull result.

What makes Blender remarkable ?
Blender is a 3D suite. That means you can consider you have several software in one, just like in Office Suite (OpenOffice, KOffice...). The most important is certainly the 3D Modeler, but you also have a render, a video editor, an image editor, a game engine, etc and a text editor either, in case you'd like to write your thesis with 3D :)

Can i use Blender with other software i know ?
Blender has its own file format, which comes with the .blend extension. You can easily import many image format that quite easy. But if you've already modelled with other 3D software you should check File>Import blender's menu. You'll see that VRML, DXF, Collada, 3DS, obj can be imported sometimes with some issues or tricks but it might work well in most cases so that you won't have to redo everything (even if you'd have like it).

So i can do my personal videos with Blender when i come back from holidays
Hum, actually you could and some people do. But if you're interesting in Video Editing or Photo Editing without 3D integration, you'd better check a dedicated tool such as Cinelerra, Kino, or Krita, Rawstudio, aso.

How can i see it is good enough ?
Well, Blender is being used for a long by many people all around the world, for many purposes. Blender Open Source productions are considered as good examples of what can be done. You can have a look at Elephants dream or Big Buck Bunny. Vimeo or Youtube may also give you many examples with blender keyword. If you work in other environment you can also look at the LGM2008 talk about blender use in TV advertising.

Where can i find it ?
http://www.blender.org/ is the official website for Blender. There is a Download page where you'll find the one for you OS. As you will see, Blender is available for Linuxes, Windows, Mac OS X, Solaris ans Irix, which makes it available for the most part of mankind.

eek, the UI is in english. Is Blender available in my language ?
Blender is translated in many languages, but most of 3D artist just use it in english. 3D is so new that most of the terms used are quasi similar in every languages which makes it quite unusefull to unset english? But if you really want, just put mouse over the bottom of the top menu bar until you get a double arrow cursor and then drag down to make the preferences panel appear. Go to languages and Font, click on International Fonts and choose the one you like in the language list.
